What do you get when you combine a chocolate chip cookie, potato chips and butterscotch drizzle? A winning combination of ingredients that make up the Choco-Butterscotch Potato Chip Cookie, one of 37 recipes in this year’s We Energies Cookie Book.
Lorelei Hardt, a 12-year-old from Oconomowoc, is the visionary behind the Choco-Butterscotch Potato Chip Cookie.
The 2024 We Energies Cookie Book celebrates childhood memories with 37 recipes from home bakers from around the state.
Lorelei’s recipe for Choco-Butterscotch Potato Chip Cookies can be found on Page 11 of this year’s We Energies Cookie Book.
“Last year, while my mom was baking her traditional cookies, I created this one all on my own. I’m 12 years old, and this cookie has my three favorite things: chocolate, potato chips and butterscotch. I love the sweet and salty together,” said Lorelei.
Lorelei’s love for baking began when she was a toddler when she would help her mother by licking the beaters during their baking sessions. But it really took off after she discovered a cookbook at her school’s book fair.
“The book had a lot of recipes. I learned that I liked making blondies, brownies and cookies,” Lorelei said.
Lorelei is an active seventh grader at Silver Lake Intermediate School. She enjoys playing volleyball on her club team and creating art. One day she hopes to use her creativity to be an interior designer, but for now she is designing cookies.
This isn’t the first time she has been recognized for her cooking creations. She received awards at school and the Wisconsin State Fair for several items, including dessert nachos.
All of these recognitions are “pretty cool” to Lorelei, but there is one recognition she is looking forward to the most: surprising her grandmother with her recipe in this year’s We Energies Cookie Book.
Lorelei’s grandma gets her We Energies Cookie Book every year at the Waukesha County Exposition Center distribution event.
“She’s going to be surprised. It’s pretty exciting,” said Lorelei.
