Two employees from We Energies will be showcased in an upcoming group art exhibit at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC).
To celebrate Women’s History Month, MATC is presenting the gallery exhibit titled “Breaking Barriers: Women in the Workforce.” The exhibit draws from MATC alumna Stephanie Bartz’s photography series “Women’s Work,” highlighting women who thrive in nontraditional or male-dominated career fields. It features artwork from Bartz, alongside contributions from artists Ann Baer, Dara Larson and Roxanne Mayuer, as well as current MATC photography students.
We Energies employees Lillian Torres and Ramika Washington posed for Bartz in 2024 and shared insights about their careers. Washington, who works at the Valley Power Plant as a plant chemical technician, performs chemical testing and analyzes results on the plant’s water systems. With a background in chemistry and biology, she has been with the company for nearly two years. Torres, on the other hand, has dedicated over 40 years to her role as a gas fitter, which involves changing natural gas meters, conducting meter readings and responding to gas emergencies.
Both women exemplify the strength and resilience it takes to excel in fields traditionally dominated by men. They hope the exhibit helps to inspire future generations to pursue their passions without limitations.
