We Energies will safely conduct controlled natural gas flaring at its regulator stations in Tomah and Black River Falls this month. The flaring operation will allow We Energies to complete required pipeline inspections and maintenance.

Natural gas flaring operation in Black River Falls

Residents and drivers may see, hear or smell signs of the flaring work taking place. These include:

  • A sustained large flame burning in the air.
  • A loud hissing or blowing noise.
  • A faint burning odor.

Flaring is a controlled process in which excess natural gas in a delivery system is safely burned into the air. We Energies will be following several precautions to complete this work. The flaring operation is not expected to impact customers’ natural gas service.

The flaring operation is expected to take place starting Friday, Oct. 17, and continuing Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24.

The areas where work is taking place will be supervised to ensure public safety, and We Energies will communicate with local first responders and officials throughout the project.
