A larger-than-life mural of Bob Uecker is captivating Wisconsinites, and thanks in part to the We Energies Foundation, when you stop by to visit, you’ll feel like you’re in the front row.
When Milwaukee Downtown (BID#21) approached the We Energies Foundation about the opportunity to help fund this incredible tribute to “Mr. Baseball” himself, foundation president Beth Straka knew it was a home run.
“Nothing says Milwaukee like Bob Uecker. We are delighted to help honor a true icon,” said Straka. “Projects like this one give people yet another reason to celebrate Milwaukee.”
The mural, painted by Mauricio Ramirez, is on the north façade of the Wintrust Financial Center at the intersection of Jackson and Mason Streets. It is 100 feet tall, 80 feet wide, and it captures Uecker as the larger-than-life personality that he was.
“Public art is an incredible part of the downtown ecosystem, so adding this mural to our collection, one of the biggest ones downtown and across the region, there couldn’t be a better location for it,” said Matt Dorner, CEO of Milwaukee Downtown. “We Energies is an incredible partner. We’re super thankful for their support coming in and making this community project really happen.”
The We Energies Foundation has partnered with Milwaukee Downtown since its inception almost 30 years ago. Since 1998, the utility has helped sponsor the Holiday Lights Festival with a breathtaking display in Zeidler Union Square. The We Energies Foundation also helped fund downtown’s first dog park which opened last summer.
