We Energies electric customers will see refunds on their bills this fall thanks to lower than expected fuel costs. Typical residential customers will see around $25 refunded to their bills. The refund is due to a fuel cost adjustment (FCA).

What is a fuel cost adjustment?

The cost of fuel used to generate electricity is included in electric rates for We Energies. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) sets this price when it approves the fuel cost plan for the year. Since fuel prices fluctuate, the FCA helps balance these changes. When fuel prices are lower, customers receive a credit. In 2024, fuel costs were less than projected, so customers will receive a bill credit.

The refund amount will vary based on a customer’s electricity usage in September 2025.The credit will appear on bills in September and October, depending on the customer’s billing cycle.

Bill credit breakdown

Each We Energies residential customer will receive a bill credit of approximately 4 cents per kWh for September’s electric use. For example, if the customer uses 660 kWh during the month, they will receive a refund of approximately $26.

Customer class Credit per kWh
Residential $0.04054
Small commercial and industrial $0.03620
Large commercial and industrial $0.03622
Lighting $0.03416

For Budget Billing customers, the FCA credit will be included in the next account review comparing actual cost to estimated cost.
