In honor of 125 years serving people in Milwaukee, We Energies is happy to announce $125,000 in special charitable giving to local nonprofit organizations. This special funding is on top of the more than $10 million the We Energies Foundation and its corporate parent company, WEC Energy Group, provide in charitable giving across the state every year.
“From education and the environment, to the arts and neighborhood development, we are proud to support our communities year round through charitable giving and volunteer efforts,” said Beth Straka, vice president — We Energies Foundation. “This special gift is a small way we can extend our commitment to Milwaukee, which we have proudly served for 125 years.”
The nonprofit organizations receiving grants in honor of We Energies’ 125 years serving Milwaukee are:
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee
- Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity
- House of Peace
- Manna Behavioral Services
- Skylight Music Theatre
- Teens Grow Greens
- Victory Garden Initiative
We Energies began as the Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Co. in 1896, serving 12,000 square miles. Today, the company serves more than 1.1 million electric customers and 1.1 million natural gas customers across Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Since the early 1980s, We Energies has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in communities across Wisconsin. Funding is made possible thanks to the generosity of WEC Energy Group shareholders and does not come from customer rates.
