The We Energies Foundation and We Energies employees are joining forces to donate almost $1.5 million to United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County this year.

Hundreds of employees pledged more than $300,000 during the company’s annual United Way campaign. On top of that, the We Energies Foundation contributed more than $1.1 million to the nonprofit that serves greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County.

United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County is focused on addressing the most pressing issues in the communities it serves. That includes ending family homelessness, reducing barriers to employment, bridging the digital divide and providing mental wellness support and services so that high school students are equipped to face life’s challenges.

We Energies CEO Scott Lauber is proudly serving as one of this year’s campaign co-chairs.

“This campaign is essential for raising the funds that United Way and their partner agencies depend on to provide critical services and support to those in need in our communities,” said Lauber. “By giving to United Way, we are creating stronger, healthier communities.”

More than financial support

In addition to providing financial support to United Way, many departments at We Energies held supply drives to help people experiencing homelessness. Employees donated socks, underwear and cold-weather clothes; toiletries like shampoo, body wash and deodorant; dental care products like toothbrushes and floss; and feminine hygiene products. In total, thousands of dollars’ worth of products were collected on behalf of United Way’s Project Homeless Connect — all of which will help people in the greater Milwaukee area live their day-to-day lives.

Some employees also donated their time to support United Way’s Empowering Minds initiative, which helps teens access mental wellness services. Employees put together kits and wrote encouraging notes to high schoolers meant to reduce anxiety, build focus and support brighter futures.

Funding across Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula

We Energies support for United Way extends beyond the greater Milwaukee area. So far this year, the We Energies Foundation has also made charitable donations to United Way chapters across the state and the Upper Peninsula including United Way Fox Cities, United Way of Kenosha County, United Way of Racine County, United Way of Marquette County, United Way of Dane County and Marshfield Area United Way.

In fact, We Energies has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in communities across the state since the 1980s. In 2024 alone, the We Energies Foundation donated $11.5 million to support community events and nonprofit organizations.

Funding for the We Energies Foundation is made possible thanks to the generosity of WEC Energy Group shareholders and does not come from customer rates.
