On Veterans Day and every day, We Energies is proud to support the men and women who bravely served our nation.
Over the past year, the We Energies Foundation has pledged nearly $400,000 to nonprofit organizations working to ensure veterans receive the support and recognition they deserve.
Stars and Stripes Honor Flight
The We Energies Foundation is a longtime supporter of Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. This year, the company sponsored the nonprofit’s 73rd mission. In April, 117 veterans and their guardians were flown to Washington, D.C., to visit the war memorials built in their honor. In addition to sponsoring the flights, We Energies employees volunteered at the airport, served as guardians to veterans on the flights and wrote hundreds of thank-you cards to show their appreciation for those being honored.
Veterans Community Project
This summer, the foundation signed on as a major sponsor of Veterans Community Project, an organization building a village of tiny homes on Milwaukee’s northwest side. The project is designed to help homeless veterans get the resources they need to return to a prosperous, independent life.
Lance P. Sijan Foundation
Most recently, the foundation made a donation to help the Lance P. Sijan Foundation restore the replica of Sijan’s F-4 Phantom fighter jet near Mitchell International Airport. Sijan was a Medal of Honor recipient from Bayview whose plane was shot down in Vietnam. He survived alone in the jungle for 46 days before he was eventually captured, brutally tortured and died as a prisoner of war.
This year, the We Energies Foundation has also supported veterans organizations that offer job training, mental health resources and community education.
