We Energies is prepared to respond quickly and safely ahead of a strong storm that is expected to bring high winds Friday followed by a winter storm over the weekend. The weekend storm could bring more than a foot of snow, additional strong winds and even blizzard-like conditions across Wisconsin.
The latest
- A high wind warning is in effect until 4 p.m. The National Weather Service (NWS) is expecting 25-30 mph winds with gusts up to 60 mph throughout the day.
- The NWS also has issued a winter storm watch that will go into effect Saturday at 7 p.m. and continue through Monday afternoon. Heavy and blowing snow is possible, in addition to sleet, freezing rain and gusty winds.
- Strong winds can bring down trees and branches onto power lines, especially when combined with heavy, wet snow or ice that can weigh down the lines themselves.
- We Energies has upgraded poles and wires, and invested tens of millions of dollars in increased funding to trim trees along thousands of miles of power lines.
- Hundreds of crews will be ready to respond to any power outages as soon as it is safe.
